June 2021 Update

The situation in Myanmar has continued to deteriorate, with widespread fighting between the military and the ethnic armies, and economic activity at a low. Many people are unemployed, and there is widespread hunger.

Schools were instructed to open at the beginning of June (the normal school year start date), but many parents are fearful to send their children. In addition to ongoing problems of security, COVID-19 cases are steeply rising.

Private schools are now officially allowed to open, but we are cautious about the safety of children and staff, and worried whether parents will be willing to allow their children to attend. We are determined to do what we can for our students, but the future is very unpredictable. There is a strong danger that we will see a lost generation.
